Issac Newton, split light in the seven colors by using a prism- a triangular piece of glass. He held the glass prism in the path of a narrow beam of sunlight. He observed that light is broken into seven colors by the prism. The seven colors are VIOLET, INDIGO, BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW, ORANGE and RED (VIBGYOR).
